Lurpak Cook's Range Cooking Mist review

Lurpak have launched a new Cook's Range, providing some modern twists on the traditional butter that they are most famous for - Cooking Liquid, Clarified Butter, Baking (blend of butter and rapeseed oil) and the Cooking Mist that they sent us to try out. Inside the rather space-aged looking silver can is a sprayable liquid blend of Lurpak butter and rapeseed oil. It makes glazing and basting a breeze - you can spray it on roast meat and vegetables, cakes and pies or anything that needs a nice golden finish.

I used it to spray each layer of filo pastry when I was making spanakopita (recipe to follow) and it was so much quicker and easier than trying to use melted butter. It's also fabulous for greasing tins and silicon moulds, especially awkward shaped ones. I like to add a spray mid-cooking to roast potatoes to help crisp them up and it makes a fabulously crispy roast chicken skin too.

When it arrived, I wasn't really sure what to do with it, but I've found quite a few uses. If you need extra inspiration, Lurpak have a whole section of their website devoted to recipes using the Cooking Mist.

As it contains 86% rapeseed oil and 12% butter, it's a lighter option to butter, and the mist format also allows you to use less than you would if glazing with oil or butter.
