Picture book review : Yuck! Said The Yak - Alex English & Emma Levey

Out of the four picture books that we received to review from Maverick Arts Publishing, Pierre's favourite is Yuck! Said The Yak by Alex English and Emma Levey.

It's an incredibly simple story, which is often the sign of a book that will have real staying power and be read over and over again. A hungry yak comes to stay with Alfie but, despite his best efforts, everything he cooks for him is met with a "Yuck!".

Pierre loves the repeated "Yucks" and gaily joined in, while he giggled at the pictures.

It also has an important life lesson in it about different people liking different things and Pierre loved the twist at the end when the yak says "Yum!" to grass and makes Alfie taste it, who says "Yuck!" in his place.

I had to read it three times on the trot and now Pierre "reads" it to me as he turns the pages ! The brightly coloured illustrations really complement the text too. Perfect for some quality time at bedtime to end the day.
