Globe-cooking recipe : Poutine (Quebec/Canada)

One of the recipes in last month's Canadian-themed Kitchen Trotter box was poutine, which is something I've wanted to try after hearing an online friend in Quebec raving about it. Even The Guardian wrote an article about it a few months ago, hailing it the new late-night snack to oust the traditional kebab and calling it "the posh chips and gravy taking over the world".

There was a sachet of Poutine sauce mix in the Kitchen Trotter, which just needs to be mixed with water and heated until it thickens. It just tasted like regular gravy made with gravy granules to me, albeit a saltier version.

The recipe card suggested making wedges with ratte potatoes in the oven but I went for a quicker (but nevertheless authentic) option and cooked up some frozen chips in the Actifry.

Once they're cooked, you need to add cheese - the recipe card called for mozzarella but I used cheddar, as it was what I had in the fridge - then put them under the grill for the cheese to melt and smother them in gravy.

It's not bad but it's just cheesy chips with gravy - nothing particularly mindblowing. Madhouse Daddy went to a restaurant that specialises in poutine a few months ago and he said that they had loads of choices with different cheeses and also extra ingredients such as chicken or minced beef.
