Juliette was very proud to Make A Bear ! (review)

As I told you a few weeks ago when I hosted a giveaway, we received a selection of goodies from Games Quest, including this Make A Bear kit which Juliette was delighted to discover under the tree on Christmas morning.

Inside the box, you get a complete but unstuffed bear, some stuffing and everything you need - precut felt pieces, thread and a large plastic needle - to finish it off.

This was Juliette's first attempt at sewing, but - with a little guidance from me - she did a fabulous job of stuffing the bear and sewing up the hole in the back. There are holes pierced in the right places to guide you but they can be quite hard to spot.

Time to move on to the jacket. This reminded me of sewing cards because you need to line up the holes and sew the two pieces together. Juliette found this easier than the bear.

There are four little flowers to create by sewing two different coloured felt pieces on top of each other. Some had two holes and some had four and it wasn't very clear which should go where. There is one to put on the bear's ear and one on a little felt bag, which were both simple to attach, but they'd forgotten to pierce the holes in the felt jacket, which made them very difficult to sew on, especially for a child.

After a few minutes struggling (I used a proper metal needle to wiggle a few holes in the right places), we managed though and the end result was very impressive. Juliette is very proud of her new bear and quickly filled in the enclosed birth certificate - she called her Jade, which was the name of her best friend at school who moved away last year.

It's a lovely project for children who are just starting to learn to sew and the end product will be a source of great pride and enjoyment, so it's a great value kit.

    1. I've made one from scratch before (with a kit with pre-cut pieces) but for kids, this is great because it's half-way there so in an hour, the whole project is finished :)
