3D Glow in The Dark Solar System Mobile Making Kit review

Juliette has been learning all about the solar system at school so it was great timing when we received a 3D Glow in The Dark Solar System Mobile Making Kit to review from Great Gizmos.

The first thing she discovered in the box was a poster showing all the planets and giving information about them, making this a really informative and educational kit.

When she'd finished digesting all the information (and making sure it was all the same as her teacher had told her in class !), we unpacked the rest of the contents. You get nine planets of different sizes (not necessarily in scale as the instructions explain that they had to tweak it a bit so that the mobile will balance), some cardboard inserts for the sun and saturn, a painting set including some cool glow-in-the-dark paint, some thread and the mobile parts, along with hooks, to hang the planets on.

The first job was pressing out all of the smaller planets, which was easily done.

The next job was painting all the matching halves - easily done because they all have different textured ridges and patterns and, if you have a moment of doubt, the names are indicated inside each one. You can use the picture on the front of the box so that you know which colour to use for which planet.

Once the paint has dried, you just snap the two halves of each planet together, use the little hooks and the thread to attach them all on the different arms of the mobile (again using the guide in the box to know where to place them) and it's ready to be hung in pride of place on the bedroom ceiling.

Juliette had great fun with the arts and crafts aspect and I love the fact that it is also very educational, perfectly tying in with what she has been learning at school and bringing it all to life.

  2. Saw a similar thing yesterday looking for a present for a 6 year old but think this is for a little older child. I'd love to do this myself!
