Archeofun T-Rex review

Now that she's a typical teen, spending most of her time on Facebook and texting her friends or posting on her own blog, you've probably noticed that Sophie features less frequently on my blog. When we received a Science & Fun Archeofun T-Rex kit to review, that tempted her out of her room though !

Inside the box, you get a block of plaster of Paris along with a plastic hammer and chisel.

Make sure you have a big plastic sheet down or a vacuum cleaner at hand because it will get messy, then get chipping away.

Now, the fact that it ended up causing an argument is a sign that this is a very appealing toy, to kids of all ages and both sexes. 13-year-old Sophie, 10-year-old Juliette and 5-year-old Pierre ALL wanted to have a go and be the one to uncover the dinosaur bones ! I know what to buy them to keep them amused in the holidays now !

The box suggests that the kit is suitable for children aged 7+ but Pierre managed perfectly well. I loved seeing how seriously he took it.

And he was delighted to uncover the first dinosaur bone ! Sophie was slightly less happy and it seemed to rapidly disappear up into her room after this ! It will take a while for her to dig out the rest of the skeleton but once she has, she'll be able to assemble it so it looks like this.

It looks very realistic and I'm sure it will have pride of place on her shelf, alongside her fossil collection.

The kit has one more surprise up its sleeve - the model glows in the dark.

It's a really fun and educational kit that is great value because it's a combination of two activities - the digging out and the construction. The range includes other dinosaurs - the smilodon (or sabre-toothed tiger), mammoth and triceratops - and also offers twin kits with two dinosaurs to discover. I think I'll have to buy up the whole collection to keep all three of the Madhouse kids happy !
