Tyrrell's Summer Butter & Mint Crisps review

When I was a kid growing up in the seventies and eighties, crisps only came in about half a dozen different flavours - ready salted, cheese and onion (in a green pack), salt and vinegar (in a blue pack - why did they suddenly get switched over ?!), prawn cocktail, roast chicken, smoky bacon ... and I think that was about your lot. Crisps have become a lot more gourmet since then, both in terms of flavour combinations and also the quality of the crisps themselves. Tyrrell's produce some particularly nice crisps -  they're hand cooked in small batches from locally-grown Herefordshire potatoes and you can really taste the difference.

They sent us some of their new, limited edition Summer Butter & Mint crisps to review. They are designed to perfectly capture the glorious taste of the Great British summer using the quintessential flavour combination of fresh locally-grown potatoes seasoned simply with butter and mint. The subtle flavour doesn't overpower the potatoeyness (is that a word?!) of the crisps and they were a big hit with the whole family, perfect for nibbling out of a bowl or as an accompaniment to barbecued meats or picnic quiches and sandwiches.

Available in 150g sharing bags, the crisps will be available from May to October at Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and independent retailers with an RRP of £2.19 for 150g sharing bag.

We love the cheeky retro packaging too, showing some vintage bathing beauties sparing their blushes by hiding behind some superimposed mint leaves !

Disclosure : We received the product in order to write an honest review.
