Drumond Park's The Best of British game (review)

Drumond Park have been providing hours of entertainment for the younger members of the Madhouse Family recently - you may have seen our review for their hilarious Dino Bite game last month - but they also have a great selection of games for older children and grown ups to play, including The Best of British, which they sent through for us to try out.

The game is designed for players aged 12+, so it was ideal for me to play with Sophie. Younger players can get involved too though, if you work in teams. This can be especially enriching if you go for inter-generational teams, pairing up a young player with a grandparent, to cover all bases (and time periods).

The playing board and the whole concept of the game are very similar to the much-loved Logo board game. You work your way around the board, answering questions from the different cards - you may get a Picture Card, a Themed Card or a Pot Luck Card. As each team gets to answer the four questions on each card, it's quite easy to move around the board without too much waiting around.

Each card focuses on a specific theme, such as the lottery ...

... or music.

The questions relate to all things quintessentially British, from food and technology to television programmes and reality TV celebs, and they cover several decades of modern British culture so that all players whatever their age will be able to anwer some of the questions. Here are a handful to give you a flavour of the game :

What is the most popular fish used for Fish & Chips?
What does WAG stand for?
Name the patron saint of Scotland
At which famous attraction can you come face to face with a wax figure of Winston Churchill?
What’s the UK’s most popular name for a girl born in December?
Which Corrie family lives next door to The Rover’s Return?
What two letters must you affix to your car when motoring abroad?
What connects footballers Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Stephen Gerrard with Fish & Chips?
Who were Randolph, Diana, Sarah, Mary and Marigold?

So how many could you answer ?!

If you pack just the box of question cards and leave the rest at home, it's also a great travel game for whiling away the hours on long car, plane or train trips.

Don't go away - I have a giveaway coming right up where you can win Drumond Park's The Best of British game.
