Giveaway #493 : Win 2 x The Delivery Man on DVD - closed - winners Kim Neville, Helen Lane

Today sees the release of ITV sitcom 'The Delivery Man' on DVD and we received a review copy which had us cracking many a laugh as we watched the episodes back to back. Despite what you could imagine from the name, it's not about a man with a van  - this delivery man, Matthew Bunting (played by Darren Boyd – Spy, Green Wing) is a policeman-turned- newly qualified midwife.

In the vein of shows like Outnumbered, this rollicking comedy isn't supposed to be a realistic portrayal of life as a midwife but it does have you smiling at things that you could imagine happening or that are only slightly exaggerated. There's never a dull moment with teenage parents, a ‘double dad’ who has two partners in labour, a pregnant prisoner on release, an incognito celebrity, a major theft from the drugs cupboard and an abandoned baby.

As the first male midwife to hit Easthill Park Maternity Unit, Matthew also has to deal with his slightly awestruck new colleagues: divorced senior midwife Caitlin (Fay Ripley – Suspects), witty and likeable junior midwife Lisa (Aisling Bea – Trollied), the extremely no-nonsense senior midwife Pat (Llewella Gideon – The Crouches) and naïve trouble-maker Tash (Jennie Jacques – Vikings). Paddy McGuinness (Take Me Out) also stars as Matthew’s former police buddy Ian who gets suspended from the force and lands a job in hospital security, while his nemesis comes in the shape of senior consultant obstetrician Luke Edward (Alex Macqueen – The Inbetweeners).

It's a funny (and in my opinion family friendly) sitcom that packs in the gags and it was a huge success when it ran on ITV earlier in the year. (It has a 15 certificate but any slightly near-the-knuckle jokes would go straight over younger viewers'  heads anyway !) The DVD, featuring the six episodes from the series, hit the shelves today, courtesy of RLJ Entertainment’s Acorn label.
