Laser Pegs 12-in-1 Indy Car review

Pierre was very excited when I showed him the Laser Pegs construction set that we had received to review. It has all the pieces required to build the Indy Car pictured on the front of the box but can also make 11 other projects, whose instruction sheets can be downloaded online - I think this is a great idea.

We couldn't help but laugh when we unfolded the instruction sheet - it's huge ! Luckily all this side was all unnecessary safety info in various languages.

The other side with the actual instructions was simple to follow with step-by-step diagrams.

We tipped out all the pieces on the bed and oohed and aahed at the vibrant colours.

On the instruction sheet, each step highlights the pieces that need to be found by shading them darker. The black and white drawings made it hard to see which pieces we were looking for in the pile though, so we liked to refer to the coloured picture on the box to see which colours we needed to spot.

The small Lego-sized pieces are actually quite hard to snap into position so 6-year-old Pierre had a good go but frequently needed my help.

He did manage to easily slot together the larger light-up pieces and the wheels though so he felt very proud when it all came together.

It looks just like on the box ... but the best was still to come.

Once you've inserted 3 x AA batteries (not supplied) in the power base and plugged the car in to it, it really comes to life.

You can push the button to toggle through on, flash and faster flash or just clap your hands because it can also be sound activated and flash to the beat of the noise. (When he saw "sound" on the button, Pierre thought the car would make noise so be prepared to explain this function to avoid disappointment.)

The really great thing about Laser Pegs is that the pieces are compatible with other construction sets such as Lego, so it is a great way of injecting some new life into the existing bucket of bricks that sits in the corner of most children's bedrooms.

At the moment, Pierre is so proud of his indy car that it is up on his shelf, but we will be looking at the other instruction sheets online to see what else we can make. I've already seen that there are instructions to build a submarine and a rocket, which both sound cool too. Of course, you can also create your own designs too and make whatever you like.

    1. It's not actually as bad as it looks - all that side with the writing is irrelevant (safety info, etc) and the other side is all step-by-step pictures :)

  5. The instructions are ridiculous aren't they. I believe they're putting smaller printed booklets into the newer ones though. Ben was thrilled with his Laser Pegs.
Thanks for sharing your review on #TriedTested this week x
