Revell Build & Play Model Kits review

Have you ever chuckled at the look of absolute panic on a grown man's face when a young son/grandson/little brother wants to play with an intricate model car that they have painstakingly put together from a kit? Or maybe the young son/grandson/little brother wants to get in on the model-building side of things, but doesn't stand a chance with all the fiddly bits to glue in place.

Well, this autumn, Revell is introducing a new concept in model building for children aged 6 and above, which is absolutely perfect for younger enthusiasts. It's called Build & Play and, as the name suggests, the finished models are robust enough to withstand playtime so they don't just have to be admired on a shelf out of harm's reach !

Each of the kits contains a small number of pre-coloured parts that fit together simply without tools. They even have rolling wheels so they look like a proper toy car when they've been assembled, which will make any young modeller proud of their handiwork.

The instruction sheets are very simple - big and bold with only a handful of steps (eleven for the police car that we received).

It's all very visual so there's no need to be able to read.

As well as the  iconic Ford Police Car (17 parts, 215mm), the launch range includes the sporty American classic Ford Mustang GT (12 parts, 190mm) and the turbo-charged supercar Audi R8 (15 parts, 177mm). They are 1:25 scale which makes them perfect for little hands to manoeuver and play with. I can Santa having plenty of these in his sack of presents in a few months' time !

  1. These are definitely one for Santa's sack! I think the pleasure will be in the playing with them afterwards. The making bit seems fairly easy.
