Cool Create Chocolate Bar Maker review

When this Chocolate Bar Maker kit arrived for us to review, Pierre and Juliette's eyes came out on stalks ! They immediately begged to have a go and started excitedly chattering about what sort of chocolate bars they'd like to make.

I had a quick scan of the information on the box and rolled my eyes when I noticed that you "just" need to add the chocolate and fillings. I was hoping that they'd have given you a starter kit of ingredients in the box to get you on your way, but luckily, I have overflowing well-stocked kitchen cupboards with all sorts of odds and ends - white, milk and dark chocolate, various types of cupcake sprinkles, cereal, muesli, raisins, nuts, even popping candy ... Charlie & the Chocolate Factory eat your heart out !

So what do you get inside the box? You get some funky foil wrappers to make your chocolate bars look just like the commercial ones, four moulds, transparent inlays for gooey fillings (that we haven't used yet) and a chocolate squisher/pourer.

The moulds come in different shapes and sizes - two large red ones (one with a ripple top and one with three chunks) and two fun size, along with three double-sided inlays to give different effects to the tops of the fun size bars.

After putting the yellow cap on (to stop it all running out), you fill up the silicon pot with chunks of chocolate - white, milk or plain, whatever takes your fancy.

Depending on the type of chocolate you use, it will need 20-30 seconds in the microwave to melt. Give it a good stir and if it still isn't smooth enough, whack it back in for a bit longer.

Remove the cap and press to fill (or part fill) the moulds. It comes out really easily with or without the little nozzle and, unbelievably, is mess-free

We decided to go for a two-tone effect with white chocolate swirled across the top and milk chocolate underneath. This actually worked really well.

I laid all sorts of edible odds and ends on the table and let the kids get as creative as they wanted.

How much Bronze Crunch can you actually fit in there ?!

I had to melt chocolate again so that there was enough to fill up the moulds but it's very quick and simple.

All done ! Time to put them in the freezer for twenty minutes.

When they came back out, Juliette volunteered to undertake the most delicate part - pushing them out of the moulds.

It was actually much easier than I expected and the chocolate bars look great - like proper shop-bought ones.

Pierre was incredibly proud and even shared them with everyone ... but he did check that we could make some more tomorrow before this show of generosity !

Yum yum yum ! We're already deciding what to put in the next batch - we're considering peanut butter to try and recreate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or possibly marshmallow fluff. The Madhouse kids seem to be very creative and I'm quite happy that it's clearing out the odds and ends in my baking cupboard too ! It probably works out more expensive than buying chocolate from the supermarket but I never see a smile this big on Pierre's face when he's eating a shop-bought treat !

  1. looks fun for the kids that's for sure but it would be nice if they had added some chocolate in the kit too

  2. This looks like a fun kit and fairly simple. Is everything dishwasherable?

    1. I'm not sure, I washed it by hand to make sure all the bits of reset chocolate came out - I would think the dishwasher wouldn't do a great job of getting in the corners. The instructions say to put it in the freezer and squish it to dislodge all the tiny bits of chocolate but I just ran it under the hot tap and it was fine.
