Giveaway #510 : Win 2 copies of Pompidou on DVD - closed - winners Tracey Peach, Becca Staples

Pompidou, the groundbreaking visual comedy created by and starring Matt Lucas, is out on DVD next week, hitting the shelves on 12th October.

I missed it when it aired on BBC1 but I did see a clip and I was slightly dubious - it doesn't have any dialogue in it at all and the characters speak gibberish - so I was interested to see what I and the rest of the Madhouse Family would think of it.

Luckily, I love Matt Lucas and there's something about his face that instantly makes me laugh, so if anyone was going to make a show like Pompidou work, it would be him. He plays a pompous but penniless aristocrat who is now living in a clapped-out caravan in front of his crumbling estate, with his loyal butler Hove (played by Alex Macqueen from The Inbetweeners) and his Afghan hound Marion keeping him company. Rather like Mr Bean, the ludicrous visual gags had the Madhouse kids laughing their heads off - the lack of complicated dialogue makes it instantly appealing to children and the PG rating means that it's family friendly too. As a grown-up, it took me a while to get into it, but I was soon smiling along with the kids at the silly antics and visual jokes. I also loved the guest appearances from famous faces I haven't seen for a while, including Anita Dobson, Bella Emburg, Jane Asher and Roy Barraclough.

I think it will be a real Marmite thing, with people either loving or hating it, but either way, you need to watch it to see what all the fuss is about !
