Get ready for a crumpet revolution : Warburtons Giant Crumpets ! (review)

Hands up if you think that the perfect breakfast (or even elevenses or mid afternoon snack) on a cold winter's day is a steaming hot crumpet, slatered with butter that sinks into the holes as you smear it with a knife. The crispy toasted edges, the soft chewy middle, the saltiness of the butter .... hmmmm !

Well, if I've got your tastebuds tingling, I have some fantastic news for you - Warburtons have just launched a brand new product : Giant Crumpets. They've changed absolutely nothing except the size so you still get the same great taste and texture, you just get a crumpet that is almost twice the size as a regular crumpet. They're basically the size of a sandwich plate and will just about fit in a toaster, but I toasted ours under the grill.

Warburtons sent us a fabulous teatime hamper so we could enjoy the new giant crumpets and they were a big hit with the whole family.

As they're so big, Warburtons are suggesting using them as the basis of a proper meal rather than just a snack or breakfast option. They make a brilliant alternative to a pizza base, loaded with your favourite savoury toppings.

You could make a posh sandwich with onion marmalade and roast turkey - now that sounds like a great way of using up the turkey on Boxing Day when you just want a light meal after the overindulging of the day before.

Or you could even make them into a proper lunch, serving them topped with avocado slices and a whole grilled chicken breast, for example, with a side of veggies.

I have to say, our favourite is still just slathering them with salted butter though, and maybe a splodge of raspberry jam if we're feeling really decadent, then pushing it all down into the little holes !
