Giveaway #524 : Win 2 x Nutcracker: The Motion Picture dvds - closed - winners Claire Elizabeth Noke, Catherine

Today sees the dvd release of Nutcracker: The Motion Picture. The much-loved and timeless Christmas ballet is brought to the screen in a magical feature film adaptation designed by legendary author and artist Maurice Sendak (Where The Wild Things Are).

Based upon the Pacific Northwest Ballet’s original production, this wonderful version has been in much demand for many years, and now it makes its long awaited arrival on DVD for the very first time, on 16th November 2015, courtesy of Second Sight.

It is Christmas Eve and guests are arriving at the Stahlbaum home. When Clara’s godfather arrives, he brings her a gift – an intriguing toy soldier nutcracker that she instantly falls in love with. That night, while the rest of the household is sleeping, Clara creeps downstairs to take another look at her present and as the clock strikes midnight she suddenly finds herself transported to an enchanted world.

Adapted from Tchaikovsky’s celebrated 1892 ballet, and derived from E.T.A Hoffman’s 1816 short story, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, this faithful 1986 adaptation directed by Carroll Ballard (The Black Stallion) is a lavish, exciting and heart-warming celebration of dance, music and life, for all the family to enjoy.

Never has this classic Christmas story looked so magical.

This was the Madhouse kids' first introduction to ballet and it's a lovely festive story that helped keep their interest levels up. The beautiful choreography and fabulous costumes really bring it to life and we were all impressed at just how many of the tunes we knew, mainly from adverts, it has to be said ! This will be a lovely DVD to sit down and watch on Boxing Day when we need a little peace and quiet after all the electronic games bleeping and overexcited children squealing !
