A Chinese New Year with this month's Kitchen Trotter box

This month's Kitchen Trotter box is taking us to China so we'll have plenty of time to prepare for Chinese New Year, which is next month. We'll also be able to practise with the several pairs of chopsticks that came in the box, along with a bamboo placemat (which would be great for rolling sushi, which is a project for another day).

This month's box contained : Black Vinegar, Chilli Paste, Sichuan Peppercorns, Chinese 5 Spice, Goji Berries and something in the red envelope which, if I remember correctly, was Tea Buds, but I'll have to doublecheck !

There are also some Prawn Crackers that the kids will love to watch puff up.

And some preserved plums.

This month's recipes sound quite simple again - I'm hoping for something totally unknown next month that will take me out of my culinary comfort zone !

First up, Crunchy Vegetable Salad. Sounds nice and healthy.

Sauteed Noodles, Pork and Bamboo Shoots.

Sweet & Sour Chicken.

And finally Steamed Dumplings with Goji Berries.

Of course, I'll be back to share the recipes and show you how we got on as soon I've tried them.

  1. Super selection. What's a black vinegar? Never tried it. I need to give a nudge to Kitchen Trotter people as they seem to have forgotten about asking me. :) Looks very good, this box

    1. I don't know, I haven't really investigated yet because I was catching up on my Russian box from last month, but I'll let you know ! Send her another email - it took a while for her to get back to me - but this is from the French subscription. I'll be intrigued to see if the newly launched UK subscription follows the same order or plays catchup :)
