Chick lit review : The Winter Wedding - Abby Clements

Festive chicklit is always great for a bit of feel-good escapism, snuggling under the duvet with a hot chocolate in a fluffy onesie, listening to the wind whistling outside and the rain lashing against the windows, as you dive into the pages of a heartwarming soppy romance. A few months ago, Abby Clements' The Heavenly Italian Ice Cream Shop  (click through to read that review) mentally whisked me away to sunny days in Italy, but her latest offering, The Winter Wedding, shows that she is just as good at evoking a cold, snowy day in the Scottish Highlands !

The main character, Hazel, starts the novel on a bit of a downer. Having always lived with her twin sister Lila, she suffers from empty nest syndrome when Lila gets into a serious relationship and moves out. When work troubles add to her woes, she decided to go for a complete career change and become a wedding planner, at first just to help out her sister with her upcoming nuptials but afterwards as a paid job. Things don't all go smoothly though, neither in the new business venture nor in her rather complicated lovelife, but as the year advances, she does find happiness and fulfilment in ways that she never expected.

As with most chick lit, it's light and fluffy - the characters are a bit one-dimensional and it's all very predictable but you do feel all warm and fuzzy inside when you get to the end, so I'm certainly not complaining !
