Madhouse diaries : After the storm

We've had some really wet and windy weather lately so, as today was a cold but sunny day, we decided to take advantage of the free weekend buses to head off to the far end of the beach. As we headed down the roads towards the seafront, we saw piles of sand that had been blown up from the beach. As we got closer to the prom, they grew in size to mini sand dunes !

The kids thought that it was great fun climbing all over them.

The seats along the promenade were all but buried !

The tide was out so there was a vast expanse of sand to walk, run and play on.

We weren't the only ones to have had this idea though.

The kitesurfers were out in force too.

As we wandered along collecting shells at the tideline, we were flabbergasted to come across two starfish. I flipped them over for the kids to have a proper look and one of them moved, so we moved them right back down the beach to the water's edge, partly so they didn't get walked on and partly because, now that the wind has died down, I'm not sure the sea would come that far up the beach again.

We also found lots of sea urchins along the beach. This all reminded us of the Tide of the Century last spring when there were dead fish washed up right at the top of the beach where it joins the promenade !

  1. Wow you really have had some wild weather by the looks of things. Funny to see the buried seats and wow to the starfish, I don't think I've ever seen one. Looks like a lovely day to have been out in the fresh air and taking in the beauty of the beach there. Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids

    1. I lust admit, it's something we take for granted but when people come to visit, they always want to go for a walk at the beach :)

  4. Looks like you had some really strong winds to produce those sand dunes! Interesting to have a close encounter with the starfish! #whatevertheweather

  5. It's amazing what the weather can do to the beach isn't it. I remember one scary time being in work in St. Ives and it was so stormy out that the sea actually started coming through the front door. It was so frightening. I can't believe those dunes though. That's definitely a sign of some super strong winds. It's always so much fun to explore the beach after a good storm though. Thank you for sharing your adventure on #whatevertheweather x

  6. Wow, it looks like you have had some seriously wild weather there. The sand on the paths looks fun to play on, but guessing that's not the easiest for people to walk on. Poor starfish, I assumed they were dead from your photo, but glad you managed to rescue them and take them down to the shore.
Thanks so much for linking them up to #Whatevertheweather :) x
