Madhouse diaries : A Windy Walk Watching the Waves

If you want to get an atmospheric photo, you can't beat a stormy day at the beach.

I'm not sure what was greyer - the sea or the sky - as we started our windswept walk along the prom. The clouds make it all look very sinister and threatening.

But without the clouds, it actually looks quite serene.

We headed into Bottle Alley to give us some shelter.

Halfway along, me and Sophie just had to dash up to the upper prom to find a quick geocache ! This is part of a series where the caches are made out of old toys. I really want to find some more on another visit because I think they're cool !

By the time we got back down, Juliette and Pierre had jumped over the wall to find shells on the beach.

The waves were crashing up against the groynes so there was quite a lot of seaspray.

Madhouse Daddy joined them and started collecting cuttlefish bones.

Sophie noticed that the waves were getting bigger - we crossed our fingers that they'd calm down by the time we got the ferry back to France !

Who needs TV with a view like this on offer?

And who needs to grow up? Certainly not Madhouse Grandad and I think I may have inherited his genes !

The construction of Bottle Alley makes it look like the seascapes are framed pictures or TV screens. I could happily sit here and watch them for hours, especially as the sky was looking more and more dramatic.

There had obviously been bigger waves last week because they had thrown a lot of shingle up onto the pavement.

The Madhouse kids were utterly fascinated by the vast quantities of seafoam coming off the sea.

They went to investigate ...

... and discovered that pebbles bounce off it !

After going to see the Banksy picture, we headed back up to the prom and found another quick geocache. (Pierre spotted it so he was very proud !)

Juliette was impressed with this old water fountain.

It's never too windy for a play area !

Well, not unless you're an adult ... time to head for home !

    1. I couldn't resist - there are literally hundreds of them in Hastings alone. So not fair - they're still quite few and far between in France

  4. It looks like you had such a great time exploring the beach with the kids, I bet it was lovely to explore your home town. I didn't know that pebbles bounce off of sea foam, I'll have to share that new information with my lot. The kids look like they really made the most of exploring the seashore. Thanks for linking up with me on Country Kids.

  7. Absolutely, bit dangerous for us by the sea but David loves the clouds! Stormy ones are his favourite I think. You might like this? http://rainbowsaretoobeautiful.blogspot.com/2015/11/racing-clouds-davids-delight.html

  8. What a lovely walk. I love the creative geocaches too. I can't believe how much sea foam there is. I've lived my entire life by the sea and on the beach and I've never seen sea foam? I wonder if it just shows up on pebbled beaches?? It looks like you all had fun despite the choppy weather. And go grandad madhouse dancing on the edge! Thank you so much for linking your adventures to #whatevertheweather xx

    1. Seafoam comes from very rough seas apparently ... although we were dubious about pollution, to be honest !

  9. It looks like a great day for a beach walk, I love stormy seas, they are fascinating to watch crashing on to the rocks and shore. Definitely much better than TV! Interesting that the pebbles bounced off the sea foam, I wouldn't have expected that! Love the skateboard geocache, very retro and a great geocaching idea. Thanks so much for linking up to #Whatevertheweather :) x

    1. I love the changing seascapes throughout the different seasons, but stormy is definitely the most dramatic :)
