Celebrate British Science Week with the Mc2 dolls - where science meets style ! (review)

I love the way that some doll manufacturers have gone out of their way in recent years to show young girls that they can aspire to be more than just fashion models, babysitters or party girls. Admittedly, Barbie was already available as a vet, doctor or teacher, but the Mc2 girls take the whole positive role model much further, encouraging girls (and boys, if they like !) to enter STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) subjects and get involved with cool science experiments at home, along with the dolls or by watching the Project Mc2 series on Netflix.

If you're unfamilair with the characters, there is :

McKeyla McAlister (Mc2), keen writer and sassy eco-warrior, whose catch phrase is “I’m smart. Get over it!”

Adrienne Attoms (A2), a culinary chemist who loves saying “Pretty Brilliant”

Bryden Bandweth (B2), a #digitaldarling who loves social media and all things techie. Her quirky catch phrase is  “Stand Back, I’m Trending”

Camryn Coyle (C2), a highly intelligent skater girl, who frequently says “Nailed It”

The four friends are in a secret, seriously cool organisation called NOV8 (pronounced ‘Innovate’) and even their friendship makes mathematical sense, based on the Pythagorean theorem that A2 + B2 = C2. Geek has never been so chic ! It's great to find such a positive message about science that strongly targets tween girls.

We've already reviewed the McKeyla's Lava Light Doll - click through to read that review,

The back of the box explains the experiment in simple-to-follow steps, as well as the science behind it.

Kitchen Science always goes down well and bringing in the extra elements of role play with the dolls and also the added coolness of the TV show tie-in makes it all even more appealing.

In honour of British Science Week this week, we received another doll from the range to review.

This one is Bryden Bandweth and she comes with a funky light-up bracelet that even I was impressed with because it uses water as a conductor, something I'd never really thought about.

The best part of all, for any fan of the series, is that you can watch videos online of the actresses carrying out the experiments of their respective doll, wearing exactly the same outfit as their mini replicas. Even as a grown-up, I think this is really cool !

Project Mc2 is the official sponsor of the BSW poster competition, inviting school children all over the country to design an eye-catching poster based on the theme of ‘Space for Science.’ To enter, children, parents and teachers can download an e-pack from the British Science Week website and they also have a competition where you can win a McKeyla doll with experiment. You can also visit www.ProjectMc2.com and became an honorary member of NOV8 and 'ladder up' through the organisation through a series of Ops tests. You can also download a free app, Project Mc2 Case Files from the App Store to go on missions for NOV8.

Follow them on Facebook (Project Mc2 UK), twitter @ProjectMc2UK and Instagram @Project_Mc2UK for exclusive news, competitions and more !

Disclosure : We received the product in order to write an honest review.
