DVD review : Oddball & The Penguins

Move over Happy Feet, there's a new cute penguin film in town ! Even better news is that it has a cute furry as well as feathered star, with a gorgeous Maremma sheepdog called Oddball who is guaranteed to melt your heart.

To begin with, Oddball is a bit of a handful, and that's putting it mildly ! He runs riot in his Australian home town of Warrnambool, which is just next to Middle Island, a sanctuary once home to thousands of the world’s smallest penguins. Numbers have dwindled dramatically since foxes have learned to cross the shallow channel to the island and if they fall below ten, park ranger Emily Marsh will be out of a job - a job that is an integral part of her family heritage because she took over her late mother's role. Emily's father, eccentric chicken farmer Swampy Marsh, can't face losing his daughter and granddaughter, Olivia, but luckily his badly behaved dog Oddball redeems himself by proving to be an expert penguin guardian. Will Oddball save the day, despite the shady characters lurking in the background determined to put a spanner in the works?

Well, of course he will ! You know what the outcome will be but you still can't resist getting swept along in this fun-packed, feel-good family movie that shows off the beauty of the Australian coast and its adorable little penguins.
