Picture book review : Animal Magic - Phil Allcock & Gina Maldonado

It's rare to find a children's book that is as much fun to read for the parent as it is for the child, but that is certainly the case for Animal Magic, the latest addition to Maverick's board book range. Phil Allcock, the author, already had us giggling when we reviewed Cantankerous King Colin, and he's done it again in Animal Magic, which will appeal to a younger audience from toddlers upwards.

The opening page features a very cute hedgehog, which reminded us of another of Maverick's ultra-appealing series of books, the Hedgehugs, who will have a new book out in October - yay !

In this simple tale told entirely in rhyme, your little reader will have to try to guess the next animal that will appear when you turn the page... which isn't as easy as you would think !

It's only eight pages long so it's a very quick read, which is a good thing as you'll be reading it over and over again ! The endearing, colourful illustrations that accompany the short texts make it an even more appealing read - Pierre was particularly taken with pointing out the magic sparkles in each scene.
