Globecooking recipe : BBQ Beef Pies (Australia)

This was one of the recipes from my Australian-themed Kitchen Trotter box and it was a big hit. These little pies have a lovely juicy, smoky filling and can be enjoyed hot or cold so they're ideal for picnics and packed lunches.

They required two ingredients from the kit : beef jerky and BBQ sauce.

BBQ Beef Pies

ingredients :

2tbsp olive oil
1 large onion
2 cloves ofgarlic
a bag of beef jerky
2tbsp Heinz bbq sauce
500g minced beef
a jar of tomato sauce
1 beef stock cube
1 ready-to-roll puff pastry
1 ready-to-roll shortcrust pastry
salt, pepper
egg yolk or milk for brushing the pastry tops
sesame seeds

Fry the onion and garlic in the olive oil.

Add the minced beef and season with salt and pepper.

Chop the beef jerky into small pieces.

Add the tomato sauce and the beef stock cube.

Then add the beef jerky and the BBQ sauce.

Cook for about ten minutes, until the meat is cooked through and the sauce is not too runny. Leave to cool.

Use a large cookie cutter to cut out discs of shortcrust pastry. Lay them out on a baking tray covered in baking parchment. Spoon some of the meat filling on top of each disc.

Cut out an equal number of discs from the puff pastry and use your fingers to seal and crimp the edges.

Scatter over some sesame seeds and brush with milk or egg yolk.

Bake for 15-20 minutes at 180°C until the are golden brown and the pastry has puffed up.
