Ravensburger Disney Castle 3d Puzzle review

We love Ravensburger's 3d puzzles here at The Madhouse and the kids are very proud of their growing collection - you may like to check out our reviews of the Unicorn Vase, Vanity Box and Jewellery Tree that we discovered recently, as well as the Empire State BuildingStatue of LibertyBig BenTower BridgeMedieval House and Eiffel Tower By Night

The puzzles are made of high quality plastic pieces that slot securely together and to make things easier, they are numbered on the back with arrows to show you which pieces go where. Some pieces are hinged so you can fold them - make sure you push them all the way to get a clean right angle, for best results - and others are shaped. You also get plastic inserts to keep things in place more securely and plastic embellishments, such as the spires and roof sections in this puzzle, to really add some wow-factor.

The back of the box shows you how it all fits together and there are also detailed instructions in the box too, but we didn't really need them, as long as we used the picture on the front as a guide. As usual, the first job was laying out all the puzzle pieces in order in groups of ten - and finding a space big enough to display the finished puzzle because this one is a whopper, measuring 45 x 27cm with an impressive height of almost 50cm.

It's a lot of fun to put together and is a great family project that helps build teamwork and cooperation - if each person starts on a different part of the numbered pieces, for example 1-50 or 50-100, it's very gratifying to see them all come together as a whole. The finished castle is truly spectacular and everyone who has seen it has been impressed, regardless of age or gender.

The extra special thing about this puzzle in particular, though, is that when you look really closely, there are over 100 Disney characters featured - and they're not all dalmatians !

We had great fun trying to spot them all and work out which films they all come from.

Obviously, Mickey, Minnie and the rest of the gang are on there and they have a prominent place on the balcony above the front door portcullis. All very reminiscent of the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace !

You could even make it into a game, giving each member of the family a piece of paper and seeing who can spot the most, or naming a specific character and seeing who can be the first to find it.

If you're looking for a special Christmas present that Disney fans of any age will love, or a special family project to keep the kids busy during half term, this is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
