Book review : YouTube World Records

When I was a kid, grannies and aunties of a certain age would always buy me a book token for Christmas and birthdays. Internet hadn't even been thought of yet (not outside of a secret military bunker in the middle of the desert anyway !) so there was no online shopping - I'd head down to my local bookstore and spend ages turning pages and browsing through the titles on the shelves to choose my favourite book then go home and read it cover to cover, devouring every word.

While the Madhouse kids all love reading, it's definitely taken a back seat in terms of favourite childhood pastimes, with many tweens and teens preferring to watch online videos and chat to their friends on social media rather than grab a book. This series of books is the perfect gateway between the two, appealing to the internet-addicted modern generation of kids and encouraging them to get their heads back in a book.

With YouTube being the world's most-visited video sharing site and home to over 100 million videos,  it contains a host of amazing clips (along with an awful lot of rubbish ones !), many documenting incredible feats of human endeavour and endurance. YouTube World Records is the first glorious interactive celebration of these heroic and often jaw-dropping efforts.

The 160-page hardback book showcases the greatest feats ever recorded on the file-sharing website. From the tallest and smallest to the greatest and maddest, YouTube World Records has it covered.

It's one of those books that, whatever your age, you will idly flick through and keep seeing things that grab your attention. The book also makes great use of modern technology and features over 250 QR codes that you can scan to take you straight to the related videos online.

This is just one of a range of YouTube-themed books available from Carlton. Other titles include The Most Incredible YouTube Videos Ever!, The Most Amazing YouYube Dog Videos Ever! and The Most Amazing YouTube Dog Videos Ever!
