Madhouse recipe : Stir-fried miso turkey breast with bok choi


Described as the only diet that helps you lose weight, boost your immune system and increase longevity whilst eating the foods you love, the sirtfood diet is set to be the biggest diet trend of 2017 apparently. So what exactly is a sirtfood? Sirtfoods are any foods that contain high level of ‘sirtuins’ - proteins, heralded as ‘the elixir of long life’, because they regulate cells and organisms and activate metabolism, cell defence and reproduction.


To kick off my healthy eating in the new year, itsu sent me a package of their miso soup and seaweed thins. Miso contains high levels of sirtuins and is being celebrated by nutritionists as one of the top ten sirtfoods. With less than 44 calories per serving, itsu miso soup sachets are the perfect light lunch, supper or snack for those on the sirt diet and looking for healthy swaps this January.


But that's not all ! Itsu's miso soup comes as a paste rather than a dehydrated powder, making it a versatile cooking ingredient. You can glaze your meat, fish and veg with itsu miso to make delicious, Asian-inspired meals. I made a simple stir fry with turkey breast and bok choi which was quick, simple and tasty.

Stir-fried miso turkey breast with bok choi

ingredients :

3 free range turkey breasts, cut into strips
1 packet of bok choi

For the sauce:
2 sachets of itsu vegetarian miso
4 tbsp mirin (or white wine + 1tsp of sugar)
4 tbsp runny honey


Pour your sauce ingredients into a bowl or dish.


Give it all a good stir to combine everything.


Toss the turkey strips in the marinade and leave to soak up the flavours for half an hour to an hour.


Heat a drizzle of sesame oil in a wok and stir-fry the turkey for 5 minutes.


Add the bok choi and cook for 3 minutes.


I sprinkled over some ume plum sesame seeds for extra colour, crunch and flavour.


Serve with basmati rice.

Healthy, tasty food ready to eat in ten minutes - what more could you ask for?!
