What's Cooking at The Madhouse? menu plan 27/1

I've just gone through the kitchen cupboards and made a list of what needs using up : split peas, bulghur, polenta, black beans, mushy peas, refried beans, crispy pancake mix, yellow bean stir fry sauce, creole red sauce, fig jam, curry sauce, Sri Lankan rice flour. Now to try to make a menu plan out of that lot - wish me luck !

Saturday

lunch - time for our traditional Saturday morning trip to McDonald's to ease into the weekend

dinner - split pea and bacon soup

Sunday

lunch - roast dinner

dinner -  leftover soup or cheese on toast

Monday

dinner - chicken curry with the leftovers from the roast and a jar of curry sauce

Tuesday

dinner - Sri Lankan hoppers (using the rice flour) topped with leftover curry and a fried egg - I now know that they should be more bowl-shaped than this so they stay doughy in the middle and crispy on the edges

Wednesday

lunch - battered fish, chips and mushy peas - all that's missing is the newspaper !

dinner - yellow bean pork and cashew stew with rice or noodles

Thursday

dinner - crispy duck with crispy Chinese pancakes - or I might try Jamie Oliver's Asian-inspired turkey salad as a filling instead

Friday

dinner - Creole prawns in a bé rouj (red butter) tomato sauce with rice and salad or raita to cool things down ! Or possibly fish in a red butter sauce - whichever I don't make this week will be on next week's plan anyway !
