Get creative in 3D - Pop Art review

I thought I was going to have a fight on my hands when we received a 3D Pop Art kit from Cool Create because all three of the Madhouse kids wanted to have a go. Luckily, it turned into a family project that they could all work on together !

Inside the box, you get a rigid plastic owl shape, five bags of Pop Art foam, a sculpting tool and a glitter pen, as well as an instruction sheet giving you ideas of a colour scheme that you can follow.

The Pop Art foam is strange stuff ! We tried to work out how to describe it and Juliette came up with "soft slime filled with lots of tiny polystyrene balls". As a parent, I would have liked to have known a bit more about what the material is - supposing a smaller child swallowed some or put it in their mouth, I am not really sure of what it is made of (although I trust that it wouldn't be toxic or harmful).

It can be squished, stretched, shaped and rolled up into a ball to start all over again if necessary. You can also blend the different coloured foams to create new shades and colours. Once you have the colour you desire, you just pull a bit off, flatten it with your fingers then press it on to the owl, following the feather shapes. It sticks like magic (but can be scraped or peeled off if you change your mind) and you can squash or cut it into shape with the tool.

Pierre was in charge of colour selection and blending, while Juliette did her creative magic decorating the owl. It was lovely to see them working together with no squabbling.

Juliette decided to ignore the model on the instruction sheet and make up her own design, using a rainbow patchwork of colours and giving him some cool sunglasses !

I thought it was quite expensive for what it is when I saw the information online but it was also much bigger than I expected when it arrived - it measures 18 x 18 x 28.5 cm so it's quite substantial. Once the owl was finished, the kids still had fun squishing it into shapes like a gooey, bobbly modelling clay !
