#KitchenClearout June roundup and July linky

During the recent heatwave, the Madhouse fridge was stuffed full of salad ingredients that always go off quickly so I was working through lots of cherry tomatoes before they went past their prime this month. I was delighted to see some summery recipes for summer fruits and barbecue ribs being linked up, as well as a great selection of cakes and sweet treats this month. Yum !

Galina at Chez Maximka kicked things off this month with her scrummy Odds & Ends Flapjacks. They look wonderfully moist and delicious and were a fabulous way of using up all sorts of ends of jars and packets - peanut butter, coconut oil, ground almonds, brown sugar with stevia, bircher muesli, an over ripe banana ... Now that's what I call a successful #KitchenClearout !

Alison from Dragons and Fairy Dust kept up the healthy bakes and also used up some overripe bananas in her beautiful Banana Muffins.

Galina's family have been thoroughly spoiled this month because she was back with another totally decadent and delicious delight, Ferrero Rocher Brownie Bites - yum ! They used up an unopened box of Ferrero Rocher from Christmas, which I must admit isn't a problem we usually have here at The Madhouse !

My first offering of the month - Pandan Cupcakes - was very green because it used up some of the pandan paste that has been lurking in the cupboard.

The end of a jar of salted caramel spread (taking up space in the cupboard since our last trip to Brittany) and a pack of puff pastry were all that was needed for these Salted Caramel Tarts. There was also a savoury version, using a jar of Ajvar, Serbian red pepper paste.

A past-its-sell-by-date tub of ricotta was transformed into a simple but tasty midweek meal - Bacon, Tomato and Ricotta Pasta - which made a nice change to the usual spaghetti carbonara.

Jane at Onions & Paper also made a pasta dish, using up the odds and ends from the fridge - I love this kind of meal which clears out all the little bits lurking in there.

Choclette from Tin & Thyme linked up a fabulously summery dish, Poached Peaches and Apricots in a Spiced Lemon & Thyme Syrup, which used up some right-on-their-time strawberries. I think this is Choclette's first time joining in so I'll hope she'll be back next month with some more delights to share :)

Sticky BBQ Ribs are a summertime staple at The Madhouse and Alison at Dragons & Fairy Dust managed to use up some black treacle in hers, which I also have in the cupboard, so I'll definitely have to give them a go.

Finally, for this month, my Cherry Tomato, Bacon & Mushoom Tart was a great way of using up some of the glut of cherry tomatoes.

Fancy joining in? Have a rummage through your kitchen cupboards, spice rack, freezer or fridge and see if there's anything that needs using up then come and share your creations with us. Or if it's way past its sell-by date, throw it in the bin and come and tell us what you found ! It would be great if you could add my badge and a link to this post for anyone else who wants to get involved.

  1. Lots of scrummy recipes, and such a variety of good ideas! I'm hungry now. Off to have a late lunch after the trip to the cinema with Eddie to see Despicable Me 3.

  3. Really need to star doing this. It is a great idea and save some pennies. I sometimes go to the supermarket and afterwards found the item I went out to buy hiding somewhere in the cupboard. Thanks for sharing.

  4. When are you having your next clearout? I really need to come over and learn from you!!! I never have much spare in my cupboards as we buy only as needed. Think this comes from no more teens in the house lol

    1. It's an ongoing project so there's a linky every month - a lot of it comes from being a blogger and getting foodie subscription boxes and other products that you probably wouldn't have bought for yourself so you have to get a bit inventive to find ways of using them !

    1. The flour and curry powder should still be ok - I'd eat the spaghetti too, as tinned stuff keeps forever !
