Giveaway #644 : Win Football Number Crunch - closed - winner Paula Cheadle

I'm not a big fan of gender stereotypes but facts are facts - most boys tend to like football and boys also represent well over half of reluctant readers. Therefore, a football-themed book with short, snappy texts has to be a good thing (and soccer-mad girls will love it too !).

Each piece of data is based on a number, creating an entire book of easy-to-digest information. Longest unbeaten runs, goal-scoring streaks, record attendances, head-to-head player match-ups... every page of Football Number Crunch is a treasure trove of figures, facts and world football stats, from the biggest leagues to the most exciting tournaments on the planet. Normally, I get the kids coming to me with endless "Hey Mum, did you know ..." nuggets of wisdom, but this time, it was more a case of "Hey, Dad, guess how many ..." !

Did you know, for example, that Cristiano Ronaldo was just 12 years old when he left his home in Madeira to join Sporting Lisbon in the capital of Portugal? Or that Diego Maradona scored 45 goals in just 73 games for Barcelona between 1982 and 1984? Well, I defy anyone to know this one : Fans of Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich consumed 700,000 sausages at the Allianz Arena stadium in its first season, 2005/6 !

It's brightly coloured with loads of illustrations and photos to help break up the texts into bite-sized chunks that kids (and dads !) can dip into at idle moments, even if they're not big fans of reading.
