Cat Machine Maker Junior Operator review

The great thing about being a blogger who loves Christmas is that the build up starts as soon as the kids go back to school in September and my inbox is instantly filled with press releases about festive foodie products and Christmas gift ideas. There are certainly no complaints from the Madhouse kids either, because they have been busy reviewing lots of fabulous toys recently. Pierre was delighted to receive this Cat Machine Maker from Toy State.

He tipped out the contents of the box and was instantly intrigued because it all comes in separate parts that you have to put together yourself.

He started picking up the pieces, turning them over and scrutinising them on all sides to see where they had screws or holes, and how they related to the pictures in the instruction book.

He was very chuffed to discover that he had his very own screwdriver, just like Dad's, and I was impressed at how well he got on with putting all the bits together in the right places and expertly tightening up the screws.

There was some serious concentration going on, but he didn't need any input from me whatsoever, which he was very proud of. Even when he messed up and put the scoop on upside down, he worked it out for himself, took it off and put it back the right way round all by himself.

It was fun to put together and just as much fun to play with. Pierre found it very gratifying and was very proud of his finished digger. I was impressed at how it made him think about following instructions and practising his fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. The next time we have any flat-pack furniture to put together, I might have to set him loose on it !

There are five kits available in the range (Excavator, Dump Truck, Bulldozer, Service Truck and Wheel Loader) and you can mix and match them to create your own unique machine ! There is a machine operator who fits into the driving seat, which opens up even more creative play opportunities.

Ages 3+,  RRP £11.99, available from Hamley’s, Morrisons, The Range, Toymaster and SMYTHS.

Disclosure : We received the product in order to write an honest review.
