Giveaway #655 : Win 2 x The Canterville Ghost on dvd - closed - winners Kim Neville, Karen Dixon

Just in time for some (very slightly) spooky Halloween viewing, Second Sight Films are releasing a magical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic tale The Canterville Ghost, which makes its UK Blu-ray debut and DVD launch on 30th October 2017.

Fearing a life of boredom when her family relocates from America to a sprawling English stately home, teenager Ginny Otis (a very fresh-faced Neve Campbell) is in for quite a surprise. Strange goings-on are soon explained when she encounters the ghost of Sir Simon de Canterville (Patrick Stewart), who can only be seen by Ginny and her brothers. An understandably grouchy ghost at first, Ginny learns his sorrowful tale and vows to help him lift the curse that will keep him haunting the corridors of Canterville Hall forever.

This spellbinding adventure will enchant and entertain the whole family in the holidays and beyond.

The film was made back in 1996 so it's lovely to see such a young Neve Campbell in her early days of acting, as well as catch up with some dearly departed great names from the British acting world (Joan Sims, Donald Sinden). The film is set in a stately home where time stands still so it doesn't seem dated.

As well as being an exciting (but family friendly - it's about as scary as The Adams Family !) ghost story, we enjoyed watching the squabbling siblings and the unfolding love story. It lasts for about 90 minutes, which is just the right length when watching with kids. Perfect for getting into the mood in the run up to Halloween.
