Project 366 : Photo Diary week 25

What a week, in terms of the weather. It was really hot, so I kept going to school without my coat, then, usually just before home time, it would absolutely pour hard as I headed to the bus stop.  Aaaaggghh ! There were a few storms too but nothing too bad. Work was a bit hectic (again !) as we had all the form teacher summaries to write for the reports and meet up with the head to report back. Every time we finished, they added another new bit to add on (summarise the whole year in the final term report, classify the skills achieved this year, report back on behaviour and work levels for each pupil to mix it all up when we create next year's classes, ...). Every time you thought "aaahh, it's all finished", they'd be back with another "can you just add this". The next two weeks are full of meetings on my days off too, which is a total pain, but then, that's it - the holidays will be here. Yes ! Even better news, but I'm not believing it until it actually happens, Sophie should be back home tomorrow night, as she managed to book up on the Eurostar. Fingers crossed !

Sunday 14th June - We finally took a trip to the beach together and, as it was still morning, we had the beach entirely to ourselves. Here's a look to the right.

And a look to the left. Nobody in sight ! Admittedly, this was about half past nine/ten o' clock and none of the restaurants and ice cream shops were open yet. I'm pretty sure it would have been packed in the afternoon !

Monday - Pierre's teacher asked us to send in a photo of him for them to sort out a class photo. The photographer didn't make it into school before the lockdown, so this is the best they can do this year. Unfortunately, lots of the parents haven't replied so they're not sure it will happen.

Tuesday - We haven't had a single takeaway since the beginning of lockdown back in March, but over the last few weeks, the shops have been reopening to the public, rather than just carrying on with Uber Eats deliveries. Pierre suddenly asked if we could get a kebab from our local shop. Well, why not?! If we're back to work and school, surely a quick wander round the corner for food is OK now ! The shop itself is closed to the public - you order and pay at one window then pick it up at another, so it's a bit like a walk-through McDrive ! The kids were over the moon to get their hands on fast food and we had enough leftovers for the next day's meal too !

Wednesday - It was absolutely pouring hard, on and off, for most of the day. Where did all the summer sun from the weekend go? Can we have it back, please ?!

Thursday - A busy day at work so, when I saw two Collared Doves through the kitchen window, happily sitting on the fence as I cooked dinner, I decided to grab a quick photo for the day. Just as I took the picture, they started to do this ! When I pushed the button to take the photo, they looked totally innocent, honest ! lol

Friday - My new day off ! I was supposed to have a meeting in the morning, but I managed to grab an hour in the afternoon yesterday when I was already at work - yay ! I grabbed Pierre and took him to the hairdresser's for the first time since ... I don't even know when but it was back before the start of lockdown. There was so much hair on the floor ! In the afternoon, we had to head back to the orthodontist's to pick up Juliette's new retainer. Apparently, it makes her teeth click and crack so she's worried about it breaking her teeth !

Saturday - "Mum? You know how we got a kebab at the start of the week? Well, can we go back to McDonald's too now?" . Well, it is now open to customers, not just Uber Eats, so I said we'd head into town, see what the situation was and take it from there. I said that if it was really busy, we'd get take-away and go outside into the marina to eat it. We left it until late, around 2pm, and in the end,  there was hardly anyone there so we ate in. This is definitely a sign that life is getting back to normal, even if we did have masks on until we sat down to eat. Juliette and Pierre have been winding up Sophie about what she's missing out on now, so I can see us doing all this again next week, if she makes it home !

  1. Sounds like normal life is resuming. I haven't had many takeaways either, but I'm a bit fed up of cooking. It's lovely that Sophie can easily pop back.

    1. It's not quite so easy this time. No ferry crossings so she has to go on to Eurostar. No Calais/Lille stop offs so it's up to London, down to Paris, then back up to Dunkirk. First train has already been cancelled. Fingers crossed she makes it's ok ! :-/

  2. The weather has been really strange even when it has rained here it's still been warm. It sounds like work has been busy. I bet you can't eait for the end of term.
How lovely to have the beach all to yourselves!
    That takeaway looks so good.
hehehe! That photo of the birds did make me chuckle.
Hooray for the McDonalds! Life really seems to be getting back to normal for you now x

    1. If I'd tried to get a picture of the birds, I'd never have managed ! lol. It was very strange to see the beach so empty. And yep, I'm counting down the days to the holidays !

  3. Ooh McDonalds. I could do with one of those, but haven't been into town. Seems a bit ridiculous driving the round trip for one. Nice to be able to get to the beach. We're so far away, it takes a few hours to get to one.

    1. We are lucky to live on the coast. I've lived in two countries and four towns but have always been right next to a beach !

  4. I hope by now Sophie is with you and you gave each other the biggest hug. The empty beach looks awesome, much better without tourists. We've only had takeaway pizzas so far, didn't dare to get to McDonald's (it's also pretty far to walk). The weather has been bizarre here as well, one night so cold we needed a duvet, the next one so hot, we have to keep the window open in the night. Your report-writing sounds exhausting.

  5. It sounds like work has been busy. I bet you can't wait for the end of term. The weather has been wet, but warm here too. That sounds great having the beach to yourselves. Yay for the McDonalds xx

  6. Woah, thats alot of storms. We've had our fill of storms these past few days. It must be annoying, being given alot of work. Thanks for the panoramic view of the beach; looks lovely. Aww thats a cute photo of Pierre. I get takeaway once every week. Your takeaway looks delicious, although the bun looks paler than the one I usually have.
Woah, perfect click time! Great to hear Sophie's returning

  7. That Kebab meal looks awesome, as does the McDonald's, it has been hectic for you getting back into the swing of school so a treat well deserved by all! I cannot believe the summer holidays are almost upon us, sounds like you need them after all the meetings this week!

  8. What a good idea going to the beach earlier, is it quieter in the evenings too? I have seen some pictures of really crammed beaches on the news and its scary when everyone is piled right on top of each other! The takeaways look great, this is the first week we haven't had one in a while so making the most of looking at your photos instead.

    1. In theory, it would be busy in the evenings as everybody would be in the bars and restaurants and on the terraces, but I haven't been to check !

  9. Oh no, how annoying to get caught out by the weather on the way home. So glad that Sophie managed to book the Eurostar and hope she got home safely. Love the photos of the empty beach, how lovely to have it to yourselves. What a lovely photo of Pierre – and what a transformation with the haircut! Hope the teacher can manage to sort out a class photo. The photo of the collared doves made me chuckle. #project366

  10. Will assume Sophie is either with you or it all went horrible wrong, either way I can't imagine it was a straight forward journey. I've no desire for fast food/takeaway, although my son is pestering for a drive through MDs when I see him next. I hate end of term reports and why do they always leave everything to the last minute for formats and contents, part of the reason I gave up teaching

    1. Yes, she made it home in one piece ! It's now the Tuesday of the final week and they've just sent through a load more paperwork that needs to be done for the final year students. It's a nightmare, even more so this year !

  11. There are queues around the block at our Macdonalds and we we have not tired it yet for that reason. The beach looked lovely and so quiet. Unlike some of the beaches here which were packed when it got hot. We all need hair appointments here!

  12. You have just reminded me that I need to send a photo and paragraph for my daughter's yearbook and today is the last day! We went to my MIL last weekend but didn't venture to the beach as we would usually do for fear of the crowds #project366
