New Low Sugar Oat Cheerios review (and foodie fun)

Whenever we go shopping, I am always slightly amazed by the vast quantity of different breakfast cereals on the supermarket shelves. As a parent, I found it reassuring when Nestlé introduced a green banner to the top of their cereal boxes to highlight the whole grain content, and now they have given parents a new ally in helping to get their kids' breakfast bowls filled with a fun but healthier option - new Low Sugar Oat Cheerios.

They are made with 98% wholegrain - in fact a bowlful provides over half the recommended amount of wholegrain - and are high in fibre. Each serving now contains 1.4g of sugar, which accounts for just 2% of an adult’s Reference Intake, and a 30 serving provides 120 calories. That's certainly better than a lot of sugar-loaded breakfast cereals out there. Flavourwise, I couldn't actually taste any difference and when I served a bowlful to the kids, they didn't even notice they weren't the usual Cheerios !

There has been a lot of noise lately about making smart sugar swaps so switching to a low sugar breakfast cereal is a great place to start.

If you're looking for a simple way to keep the kids amused, Cheerios are a great base for foodie fun projects too. You might like to have a look at the Cheerio Frankenstein's Monsters that we made for Halloween.

Or if you want a springtime-themed project, how about trying these Cheerios sheep?!

Low Sugar Oat Cheerios complements the existing Multigrain, Honey and Chocolatey products in the Cheerios range. NestlĂ© Low Sugar Oat Cheerios are available at Tesco and ASDA with a RRP of £2.49.

  1. I think it's great they are bringing out lower sugar cereals. At 2% this is much better.
