Dgrade biodegradable dog poo bags

I think it says a lot about me and my life really that I've gone from reviewing beauty products to doggie poo bags ! But let's face it - they may not be glamorous but they are very useful things and they make the planet a nicer place for everyone. Actually, that sounds like a pretty good description of me too !!

So, what's so special about these poo bags that they merit a review on my blog ? Well, these ones, made by Dgrade are starch-based, made from Mater Bi™, produced from non-genetically modified cornstarch. They're totally eco-friendly because they are biodegradable but also made in the UK, which keeps your carbon footprint down.

The bags themselves are nothing to write home about. They are approximately 205mm x 280mm (8" x 11") and are quite thin, but let's face it, you're going to fill them with poo and fling them in the bin so they don't need to be particularly impressive ! I would have preferred bags with handles that could be tied to keep the contents tucked away more hygienically, but there are other models available on the website that have them. They are perforated which makes it easy to get one off the bag quickly, even if you have one hand tied up with holding the dog's lead. They're the perfect size for putting your hand in to retrieve the poo before pulling it inside out and throwing it away, and - all importantly - didn't split or rip at all when I did this. Who wants to get their hands covered in doggie doo after all ?!

The bags can be deposited in your usual household waste or specialist dog poo bins if your council uses them. Alternatively, if you have your own compost heap, they can be deposited in that too, but you should be aware that the speed of degradation can vary greatly depending on environmental surroundings.

All responsible dog-owners should buy dog poo bags. As a pushchair-user, I can tell you that there is nothing that makes my blood boil more than trying to navigate around disgusting piles of poo in the middle of the pavement. Oh, apart from when the kids manage to get it all over their shoes because some inconsiderate dogwalker has left a little present on the grass or in the playground.
