The Littlest Angel DVD review

You know those films that you can all sit down and watch together as a family with the kids getting just as much enjoyment as the adults ? Well, The Littlest Angel, that we were sent to review, turned out to be just one of those films.

I have to admit that I'd never heard of it, even though it is based on a best-selling children’s novel by Charles Tazewell. This is the first time that it has been brought to DVD though.

The film tells the tale of the slightly naughty but very nice Littlest Angel who prefers spending his days chasing butterflies, climbing trees and getting into trouble rather than going to his boring "good deeds" classes at the Angels' Academy and properly growing his wings. He goes on an adventure with his friend Halo, a cute little talking dog with wings, to find his missing treasure box, is captured by the creepy owners of a Travelling Freak Show who want to lock him up for their show and has to be rescued by his heavenly friends.

It's a lovely animation with a lot of positive messages that can be explained to kids - for example, not going off on "dangerous adventures" when you've been told not to and the real meaning of gifts/Christmas - but it's also a real feel-good movie with a happy ending and numerous episodes that will bring a smile to your face.

It's perfect for snuggling up on the sofa in the run up to Christmas. Even more special for our family is that the girls really related it to Angel, their little sister who wasn't meant to be, and said they can imagine her up in the sky being naughty and playing with the little puppy (the runt of the litter when our dog Vicky had 8 puppies) who died too ! That just makes it into an even more heartwarming tale.
