Lush Coco Lotion for Bodies and Hands review

Everybody's doing a brand new dance now ... come on baby, do the coco-lotion ! I'm not sure if it's done intentionally or not but pretty much every time I use a product made by Lush, I end up with a song going round in my head for the rest of the day !

When I was offered the chance to review a pot of their Coco Lotion for Bodies and Hands, I thought it would be the perfect thing for nourishing my post-holiday skin after soaking up the sun in Turkey.

According to Lush : "For rather sensitive types, Lush’s Coco Lotion (£9.25 for 225g), inspired by the Caribbean, it is the ultimate summer body cream. Containing fresh pineapple juice, extra virgin coconut oil, mandarin and rosemary infusion, Coco Lotion - with no added perfume – is naturally beautiful. Smooth lashings of this delicate cream all over your legs and body for toned, brightened and super smooth skin - perfect for sun sore bodies."

Inside the pot, you get a lovely thick cream that looks so rich, I thought it would have trouble soaking into my skin, but this isn't a problem at all. It's perfectly absorbed without leaving a greasy or sticky residue at all and it leaves skin feeling perfectly hydrated and soothed.

The natural off-white colour doesn't put me off at all, but I was hoping that the fragrance would pack more of a punch. I was expecting something utterly scrumptious, reminiscent of a Caribbean cocktail or a glass of Malibu and pineapple but, to be honest, it doesn't smell of anything much. It's targetted at people with sensitive skin though, so lack of perfume is probably a good thing.

Ingredients-wise, it's full of skin-boosting natural goodness. The Lush website explains that it's : "packed with oils to condition and feed the skin and leave it supple; extra virgin coconut oil, peanut oil, organic pumpkinseed oil and organic sesame oil. We also add fresh pineapple juice, because it contains a natural enzyme, called bromelain, which helps digest dead skin, making it lift away and leave the skin looking bright. With mandarin and rosemary infusion, pimento berry and nutmeg and star anise decoctions – to tone and brighten the skin."

As with all Lush products, it's handmade with fresh ingredients, is ethical, cruelty free and eco-friendly. As a little incentive to get you recycling their pots, there's a sticker on the side telling you that if you take five empty pots back to your local Lush store, you'll get a fresh face mask totally free.

But that's not the only green move Lush have made with their packaging. They have come up with Lush Knot Wraps, including this cute Pumpkin version which is perfect for Halloween, as an ecological alternative to gift-wrap, and this saves 11.6 tonnes of waste per year.

They have also created a new cornhusk packaging to wrap their solid cleansers, inspired by the traditional Latin American snack tamales. They explain : "It’s the same papery wrap that you get around sweetcorn cobs, dried out in a special way for using in Mexican restaurants. It’s 100% natural, compostable and biodegradable and replaces the black, recycled-plastic pot we currently use. In 2010 we sold 1,524,464 pots of our solid cleansers globally – so this will save over 24.4 tonnes of plastic packaging." How cool is that ?!

  1. Yum.. Sounds too good to just rub on your hands. I love anything with the smell of coconut.
