Talking Princess Holly review

The Madhouse mini-testers are big fans of Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom and if you're a regular follower of my blog, you'll have seen our review of the lovely Tooth Fairy DVD here. We were therefore really pleased when Entertainment One kindly gave us the chance to review a Talking Princess Holly doll.

When she arrived, we were impressed at how lovely and soft she is and how she looks just like Holly on the cartoon. Juliette loved giving her cuddles and Pierre seemed to love her slightly smaller size (20cm) which is perfect for young children because she's nice and light and easy to hold.

However, things went downhill from here. I squeezed her tummy and nothing happened. She's supposed to say a selection of phrases from the TV programme, including "I think I’ll use some magic. Undeterred, I went to find the battery compartment, laughing that the people in the press office must have been playing with her a lot before sending her out for review ! But then a huge design fault became apparent. The voice box with the battery compartment is inaccessible, sealed right inside the toy, so once the batteries have died, that's it - you can't replace them.

Juliette still likes her as a soft toy but it's a shame that we'll never be able to hear her talk.
