Handpicked Collection Marrakech Cream Lantern review

A few weeks ago, I blogged (here) about some of the fabulous Mother's Day gift ideas from the Handpicked Collection and they were kind enough to send us through one of their Marrakech Cream Lanterns to review. Even Madhouse Daddy Mike - who usually isn't very bothered about knick knacks and decorative objects - came over to have a look and said it was "really pretty" (he's a man, that's about as good as it gets !).

It's incredibly ornate and intricate and really reminds me of the lanterns we saw in the bazars in Tunisia (which is as close as we've got to Morocco) so it's very authentic. Just standing on the shelf unlit, it looks fabulous but - as you can see from this picture - it really comes to life when you put a candle inside, casting enchanting shadows on the wall and really showing up the patterns on the lantern. It's made of metal so it isn't a fire risk.

The door has a little latch to fasten it closed (which doesn't seem hugely sturdy so handle with care) and a hook at the top, which needs to be screwed on when you take it out of the box. You could use the hook to hang it from a tree in the garden in summer or placing several around a patio or along a path would make for spectacularly romantic and atmospheric lighting in the summer evenings. For the moment, we'll be using ours indoors though, where it still looks lovely.

The lanterns come in two sizes - large 40cm ones costing £15.95 or small 29cm ones for £9.95 - which sound like absolute bargains to me.

star rating : 4.5/5

RRP : £15.95 and £9.95

  4. Thanks for the review, this would look stunning as a table light when I am sitting outside in the garden (with a glass of wine) in the balmy evening sunshine, well I can dream ;0)
