SAKATA ASKS CONSUMERS TO DEFINE HOW TO PRONOUNCE ITS NAME !

I reviewed Sakata Japanese rice crackers a couple of months ago (here) when they launched in the UK and I must admit, I wondered how the name should be pronounced, opting for Sack-art-a. Well, now you can decide how it should be pronounced on their Facebook page and you may even win a year's supply for your pains !

Crowd-sourcing used in new brand campaign
 
Sakata, the great tasting Japanese rice cracker brand, which recently launched in the UK, is kick-starting a new campaign for consumers to define the pronunciation of its brand name.
 
In an innovative marketing initiative, Sakata will use Facebook voting to crowd-source the most popular way to pronounce ‘Sakata’ in the UK. The winning version will then be used in all future advertising and marketing. 
 
Facebook fans will be able to vote on a series of video clips that illustrate the different ways the word ‘Sakata’ can be pronounced. They will also have the chance to upload their own take on how they believe Sakata should be pronounced and get their friends and family involved via Facebook and Twitter.
 
The Sakata team will award a year’s supply of Sakata rice crackers to one lucky participant. Whilst voting, each participant will be asked to enter a valid email address to validate their vote. The chosen winner will be selected at random from the pool of voters.
 
Annika Meeks, Marketing Manager at Sakata, said: “Since the UK launch, we noticed a number of variations in the way people were pronouncing Sakata. It inspired us to create a campaign that involves fans and allows them to have their say – literally! We are excited to be launching and looking forward to hearing the results.”
 
Sakata rice crackers are already one of Australia’s favourite snacks thanks to each cracker being crispy and nine calories or less. These tasty rice crackers are also gluten-free.
