Kids' app review : My Little Beauty

As soon as they hit their tweens, girls always seem to find a sudden passion for trying out make-up and nail varnish. Sophie's only 10 so the most she's allowed to wear at the moment is lip gloss and nail varnish in the school holidays.

Well, needless to say, when we were sent a code to try out the My Little Beauty app, she got very enthusiastic. It's a virtual beauty salon game in which you have to give your customers the new looks that they want by changing their hair, make-up and nails on demand and within a time limit. It starts off easy but gets faster and more frantic as you progress through the levels.

The game also offers little real-life beauty and make up tips that Sophie loved because they made her feel very grown up.

One thing that did slightly annoy me was all the optional upgrades that are available and that you have to pay for. While I think this is fair game for free apps (such as Tap Zoo, Pet Hotel, etc) because they need to get their money from somewhere to break even, it seems a bit abusive for an app that you've already paid for, especially when it's relatively expensive (£2.99), compared to many similar apps.

Sophie enjoyed it though, even without buying any extras, and even 7-year-old little sister Juliette had fun trying it out too.

star rating : 4/5

RRP : £2.99
