There is always much excitement here at
The Madhouse when we receive a delivery from Priddy Books. As Roger's
Bloggers, we've received lots of books to review from Priddy Books
in the past, as well as from other publishers, but the Madhouse
Mini-testers always seem to get particularly excited when the books
come from them. I've been trying to work out why and I think it's
because they're brightly coloured but also interactive. We've had
activity books, a read-along book and CD set, picture books that
throw questions at you to make sure you'll being observant and
understanding what you're looking at …
This month's books got the usual warm
reception ! Pierre was totally taken with the Treasure Hunt Counting
Colours book, which is utterly compelling reading for a 2-year-old,
judging by his reaction.
It's a huge chunky board book with ten
double pages each focusing on a specific colour. Pierre loves looking at
the collections of objects to see what he can spot, even if he avoids
the “Black” page because he is scared of the spider !
When his big sisters are on the scene,
they can read the different phrases – for example “3 farm
tractors”, “2 roses”, “10 rubber ducks”, “2 big
dinosaurs”, “6 sparkly shoes”, etc… - that are written around the
edges of the pictures and they can all have fun trying to spot the
different objects. This is a great way to practice basic counting
skills as well as learning new words and honing observation skills.
It's a book that you can look at over
and over again and still spot new things each time. It's turned into
Pierre's potty-time book of choice and he loves pointing things out
to me and naming them or asking me for words he doesn't know.
