Book review : The Wedding Dress - Rachel Hauck

The title may sound very hearts and flowers but The Wedding Dress is more than that, offering a complex tale of loves lost and refound, or sometimes just loves lost that were never meant to be.

It is a cleverly woven story of the intertwined destinies of four women from different generations - Emily from 1912 who took a stand against the racist Jim Crow laws; Mary Grace from 1939 whose character seemed less well defined; Hilary from 1968 whose tragically brief love story was cut short by the Vietnam War; and Charlotte, modern day bride-to-be (maybe), whose destiny and family history are revealed as being strangely interlinked with each of the women who owned this strangely magical wedding dress.

The book can be categorised as Christian fiction, with "He moves in mysterious ways" and trusting in God's plans for you being the underlying moral to the story, but it is not overtly religious so this aspect will not put off anyone who is not that way inclined.

It's a lovely feel-good, lightweight, romantic read with a historical and religious slant that takes it to a deeper level.
