Orgran Gluten-Free Farm Animals Pasta review

The Madhouse Mini-testers got very excited when they spotted this colourful packet of Farm Animals Pasta in the "free-from" taster box from Ocado that we recently received and gleefully peeked through the little window in the box, trying to spot the different animal shapes before I put it in the cupboard !

I can see why they were so pleased - not only does it come in a variety of cute animal shapes, the pasta is also made in a trio of colours, which, as we all know, always makes it more appealing to children. The colourings are totally natural, coming from spinach and beetroot, and the pasta is gluten and wheat-free (as well as dairy-free, nut-free, vegan, egg-free, GMO-free, yeast-free and soy-free). It is made from rice and maize meal.

During cooking, I did find that the pasta released quite a lot of starch, but it held its shape well.

The Madhouse Mini-testers had great fun trying to guess the shapes. Here we managed to identify an orange sheep (maybe - on the left), a white cow, a green donkey, an orange cockerel and we have no idea what the thing at the bottom is - Sophie suggested Siamese twin calves !

Tastewise, they thought it wasn't as nice as our usual pasta, but that is something we've said in the past when trying gluten-free pasta. They did love the shapes and colours though and asked if they could have a handful of shapes from the box for making a pasta farmyard picture !

  2. this is definitely worth knowing, thanks :-) Fortunately we don't need "free from" stuff but it's worth being prepared for friends' visits!
