Free downloadable Park Adventurer activity sheets

Wood Flooring

Here at The Madhouse, we love nothing better than getting out and about in the fresh air and learning about the natural world we live in. We often go for nature treasure hunts, looking for pretty pine cones, feathers and leaves that we can bring home and use in art projects. I-Spy books are also great fun, trying to spot and identify as many trees, plants and insects as possible. It hasn't been so easy since the snow's been here, but we've been icicle hunting and trying to work out what the different animal tracks are that we come across.

We may have to wait for the snow to disappear before we can go and try it out, but we all love the look of the Park Adventurers game that can be downloaded on 1926 Wood Flooring's website. They explain : "At 1926 we're passionate about our wood products and we'd like to help our younger generation find out a little bit more about where the wooden items, which they see every day, come from.

A tree's lifespan takes it from seed, to sapling, to habitat for wildlife before it ends up in your home. Our Park Adventures game will open up discussions about the natural resources children see around them and help them understand how we use them.

Whatever the weather, Britain's parks are a great, safe place to learn about nature. Help your child on his/ her quest around your local park or playground and follow the instructions on the sheet. The game will have them collecting items from around the park, answering questions and exploring. With your help, your child should reach the finish line with a better understanding of what trees do and how they fit into our local ecosystems: they'll also have lots of fun!"

I personally can't wait to try out the Native American's method of looking at the top of a tree through your legs to work out how tall it is ! I recently explained to the Madhouse Mini-testers about counting the rings on a tree stump to see how old it was, which fascinated them, so I know they'll love running around the park finding all the different things on the sheet.
