Drumond Park Box of Shocks review

*** Don't miss my giveaway to win your own Box of Shocks ! ***

When Drumond Park sent me through a Box of Shocks to review, it was a real trip down memory lane. I bet all children of the seventies and eighties will have fond memories of whoopie cushions, black face soap, sugar lumps with plastic flies in the middle, pepper sweets, fake dog poo and all manner of other naughty-but-(not very) nice things guaranteed to have you giggling and sniggering at the back of the joke shop imagining your poor mum/gran's face when you played another harmless prank on them. Well, The Box of Shocks will introduce exactly this kind of timeless classic to modern day kids who don't know what they've been missing - and if the Madhouse Mini-Testers are anything to go by, they'll love it !

The box contains the following tricks and pranks : Sliding Spider Box, Finger Breaker, Ketchup Bottle, Pen Through Hand Trick, Fabric Pen, Whispering Magician, Snake Can, Fake Small Hand, Fake Egg, Scorpion Booklet, Mysterious Magic Cup. There is also an Instruction Leaflet to guide you through the different tricks so that your little pranksters can learn in secret and go out of their way to shock you. (Admittedly, grown-ups will probably remember these tricks from their youth so you may have to do some Oscar-winning acting and pretend to be surprised !)

Drumond Park explain : "Inside is just what it says on the box – think squirting ‘crazy’ ketchup all over your audience’s clothes, showing them how you break your finger backwards, leaving a coiled snake – ready to spring - in a crisps tin, ramming a pen through your hand, hiding a spider behind a coin in a box - so it can leap out at them… and you’ll have just a smidgeon of an idea of what you’ll find in this great new compendium!"

The Box of Shocks is aimed at children (and adults!) aged 8+ and both 8-year-old Juliette and 11-year-old Sophie have been having great fun scaring and surprising their friends. They even managed to make me jump with the snake jumping out of a can of Pringles, much to their absolute delight ! It's great to see that such simple, traditional tricks and pranks still appeal to modern youngsters.

With April Fools Day just around the corner, this is the ideal gift for tweens and teens, but I can this being pulled out time and time again whatever the time of year ! It retails at £20, which works out at good value when you consider that it contains 13 tricks.
