iLuv Sweet Cotton headphones review

I have to smile when I look at the headphones that all the cool kids are wearing on the bus these days because it's like stepping back in time. I remember the big chunky things that people used to wear in the 1970's, then Walkmans became all the rage and those iconic thin metal bands attached to two orange foam discs became the in-thing. Move forward another decade or two and they got smaller and smaller with barely visible in-ear buds becoming the norm. Then suddenly "big is beautiful" became the new mantra and we went full circle again, with today's youth lusting after chunky headphones again !

Needless to say, Sophie was over the moon when she received a pair of iLuv Sweet Cotton headphones to review, especially as I chose bright pink ones for her which she thought were incredibly funky. I tried them on with my mp3 player and have to say, they are more comfortable than the little buds you press into your ears - and you don't run the risk of looking silly when you're walking down the street and they ping out of your ears ! (Or maybe it's just me that tha happens to ?!)

If pink's not your thing, they come in a wide range of different colours from plain white or black to vibrant blues and greens as well as pastel shades so there's bound to be a pair that take your fancy.

Soundwise, I was impressed too. They give a much better quality sound with my mp3 player than my usual in-ear buds - I could hear backing vocals and instruments that I barely detected before, although that could be because they cover your whole ear, thereby blocking out more of the background noise that I inevitably get on the bus. They also have a SpeakEZ remote inbuilt which can be used with a smartphone (so it's a feature we haven't used because we haven't got one yet ... although that may just be about to change so watch this space !). Apparently they offer a hands-free microphone and a one-click play/pause remote control (as you can see on the left on the picture above).

The cable is designed to be tangle-free (and this does seem to work) and the padded earphones and sliding band offer a really comfortable fit. Whether you want to listen to music on your mp3 player or answer incoming calls on your smartphone, they're a great piece of kit that have the added bonus of looking really funky.
