You may remember last year, we reviewed a highly educational X-ray Dog Anatomy Model from Revell that had Sophie ghoulishly rubbing her hands and learning all about the different parts of the body. Well, this time, they sent us through two toys that may be less useful for learning but are certainly really good fun to play with, whatever your age.
The first product that we got to grips with was the Glow In The Dark Glowee helicopter. Now, not being technically minded, I'll just tell you the info straight from the box : "Ready to fly 3 channelGHZ helicopter that glows in the dark, stable alloy frame and gyroscope. Includes spare rotor blades and USB charging cable. Transmitter requires 6x 1.5V AAA batteries (not included)." Got all that ?!
It's quite small - you can fit it on your hand quite comfortably - but that's actually quite a good thing because it makes it easier to control, especially as you're advised to use it indoors - eeek, you might want to put away the family china first ! You can fly it outdoors too though, wind permitting, which is probably a much safer option. The cabin is glow in the dark but flying this in the house with the lights off or outdoors at night is DEFINITELY a recipe for disaster so we haven't actually tried this out yet!
Big kid that he is, dear old Madhouse Grandad has long been lusting after a radio-controlled helicopter so he's been having a whale of a time testing this out for us. He thinks it's great fun but is a bit disappointed that the charge doesn't last for long (whereas my mum thinks that this is a very good thing !). The Glowee has a RRP of £34.99 and has father's day present written all over it !
The second Revell Control toy that we received is the Fly Ball Cager. This is a great toy for younger children who want to try out flying radio controlled helicopters because the ball-shaped mesh cage protects the flying unit from the inevitable knocks and crash landings, making it much more robust.
The remote control needs 6 x AA batteries and the rechargeable battery in the cager needs a 20 minute charge to fly for about 7 minutes, which isn't very long when you have several members of the family desperate to have a go. It's quite difficult to control but the protective cage means that crashing it into the walls and furniture actually ends up being half of the fun !
Both toys would go down well with dads and grandads, if you're still looking for a father's day gift idea, and with the Cager, you could go for matching dad and son (or daughter) gifts so young children can enjoy flying their big boy toys with their dads !
