Hovis Breakfast Bakes review

Hovis recently sent through some of their Breakfast Bakes biscuits to The Madhouse for us to review. They come in three flavours - Milk & Oats, Malted Crunch and Oats & Honey. They all taste really nice - they have a definite biscuit taste but they're not overly sweet and remind me a bit of digestive biscuits with an oatier flavour. They are made with wholegrains, which makes me feel much better about eating biscuits for breakfast !

They have another huge advantage - you can pack them in picnics or pop them in your bag as a snack for the kids when out and about and, even in the middle of a heatwave, they won't melt so they're a much better option than chocolatey snacks ! We have also used them crushed up and mixed with melted butter as a cheesecake base which worked really well.

Each box contains 5 packs of 4 biscuits so they keep nice and fresh and won't make loads of crumbs in the bottom of your bag or pocket. Each biscuit contains 59 calories, 2.2g of fat (of which 1g saturated), 8.2g of carbs (of which 3.1g sugar) and 0.6g of fibre.

They're great as a breakfast on the go, especially if you supplement them with a dairy product and a piece of fruit (a little bottle of Actimel and a banana are ideal for shoving in my coat pocket on the way to the bus stop when I'm in a rush !).

star rating : 4.5/5

RRP : £2.19 per box (5 x 4 biscuits)
