Kixi Razor Balance Bike review

When this Kixi Balance Bike arrived at The Madhouse, I was totally expecting 4-year-old Pierre to jump up and down in excitement. And I was quite right on that score.

However, I wasn't expecting big sister Juliette (8 years old) to want or even be able to ride it too. You can tell by Pierre's face in this picture that he wasn't at all happy when she started scooting around the car park on it !

He soon got his big smile back when it was his turn though ! He started off keeping his feet down near the ground and "walking" himself around with it, but soon gained in confidence (and balance) and started whizzing around, pushing himself off with his feet then putting them up on the footrests.

It's too small for Juliette really but once she's got it moving and puts her feet up, it still works prefectly for her. We had an amusing moment when we took it to the park and a group of boys about her age walked past, did a double take and came back to have a good look, saying "wow, your bike's weird, it's hasn't even got any pedals" ! I smiled and said "nope, no brakes either!" so they looked at each other and went "wow, that's cool !" then wandered off ! They've obviously never seen a balance bike before !

What I really like about the bike is that it's really lightweight so it's easy for little riders to control and is comfortable for mum or dad to carry on the way home from the park or to cross roads. I was impressed at how quickly Pierre's confidence grew and he was actually riding a bike for short bursts with no stabilisers. It all seems to come totally naturally and he didn't fall off once. It's the perfect next stage on from toddlers' ride-on toys.

The bike comes in a box ready to assemble but was so simple that by the time I'd gone to get the camera, Madhouse Daddy had already finished putting it together !
